Shakira and Gerard Pique announced their separation last June, after 12 years together.
Shakira breaks the silence. In a new interview with the American version of “ELLE” magazine, published this Wednesday, September 21, the singer decided to speak about her divorce from Gerard Pique. “It’s really difficult to talk about it personally, especially since it’s the first time I’ve addressed this situation in an interview. I stayed quiet and just tried to take it all in. »
“It’s really hard to talk about it”
A situation which is also difficult for the children of the two stars, Milan (9 years old) and Sasha (7 years old) because their break-up was extremely publicized. Shakira therefore tries to protect them as much as possible. “I tried to hide this situation in front of my children. I try to protect them, because it is my priority in life, ”explains the singer. But unfortunately, her two sons “hear things at school from their friends or they come across some nasty news online, and it affects them, you know? “, she continues.
The 45-year-old star also highlighted how hard this breakup was for her. “I feel like this is all just a bad dream and I’m going to wake up at some point. But no, it’s real”, she admits before admitting that she was disappointed that her couple, which she thought was “sacred” and “special”, was “transformed into something vulgarized and depreciated by the media”. Photos of Gerard Pique with his new girlfriend were notably published in the press last August.
” A bad dream “
Because for her couple, Shakira had given everything. “I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family. I put my career on the back burner and came to Spain, to support him so he could play football and win titles. It was a sacrifice of love,” she says. Before continuing: “Thanks to this, my children were able to have a mother hen, and I have this incredible bond with them which is unbreakable and which supports us. That’s all I can say. »
While Shakira chose not to say more about Gerard Pique’s romance with his new girlfriend, or the allegations that he cheated on her, the singer said she wanted to set up co-parenting to raise their children. “We have a job to do for these two amazing boys, and I’m confident that we’ll find what’s best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what’s a fair solution for everyone involved. And I hope and would appreciate that we are given the space to do so in private, ”she concludes.
